What exactly are DELF and DALF?

DELF is an acronym that stands for Diploma of French Studies (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française).

Diploma in Advanced French (Diplôme approfondi en Langue Française) is abbreviated as DALF.

They all have the following in common:

  • The only certified French-language credentials for non-native speakers offered by France's Ministry of Education
  • Valid for life
  • Covering all levels of French

These diplomas provide the candidate with a quality French-level certification, useful to carry out specific personal, academic or professional projects.

The exams are open to non-native speakers, without any set requirements as regards the minimal number of guided-learning hours.

Candidates can take the exams in any country with a French cultural representation, therefore in Estonia too.

Candidates will take the exam of their choice.

DELF and DALF tests are exactly the same worldwide.

They are composed of six independent diplomas corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:

• Delf A1, Delf A2, Delf B1, Delf B2
• Dalf C1, Dalf C2

DELF B2 graduates need not take the entrance language-examination to French universities.
