What is the SIELE Exam?

The Cervantes Institute, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the University of Salamanca developed the International Spanish Language Evaluation Service (SIELE).

The SIELE is a proficiency exam that certifies several levels of Spanish language fluency. It employs a point system that corresponds to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1.

A substantial number of Spanish universities need students to hold an official Spanish certificate in order to get their undergraduate diploma and/or to enroll in a master's/postgraduate program.

The SIELE exams are comprised of 4 specific tests that cover all areas of the Spanish language:
1. Reading comprehension
2. Listening comprehension
3. Written expression and Interaction
4. Spoken expression and Interaction

Depending on the reasons you might have to need an officially recognized Spanish exam, you have five types of SIELE exam to choose from:
S1: Reading and Listening (areas 1&2)
S2: Reading and Written (areas 1&3)
S3: Listening and Spoken (areas 2&4)
S4: Spoken (area 4)
SIELE GLOBAL (all areas 1, 2, 3 & 4)

Find more information in the SIELE guide (PDF) or on the official SIELE website.

Why should I (not) take it?

Spanish is the official language in 20 countries and with more than 400 million native speakers, it’s the second most spoken language in the world. That’s why learning Spanish is an excellent investment for both your professional and personal life.

SIELE Diplomas are internationally recognized, among other things to access University in Spain, and are valid for 5 years so they are one of the best ways to certify your level of Spanish if you want to work or study in Spain.
